Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood alum Masika Kalysha is grieving the heartbreaking loss of her estranged husband, Jamar Champ, who died in a devastating car accident this week.
The 38-year-old entrepreneur was killed early Tuesday in Houston, Texas, when his Tesla Cybertruck was involved in a fiery three-vehicle crash. According to local reports, Champ was driving along a highway when a BMW collided with his truck, causing the car to burst into flames.
The impact pushed Champ’s vehicle into an 18-wheeler, leaving him with critical injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The BMW driver was also killed in the collision.
Masika, who rose to fame on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood, confirmed the tragic news in a statement to The Shade Room.
“Jamar’s death was both tragic and unexpected,” she said, asking for privacy as her family grieves. “He was the father and stepfather to my beautiful daughters. Please respect our space as we honor his memory.”
Kalysha and Champ were married in 2021 but separated two years later. She filed for an annulment in 2023. The couple has a daughter named Amari, who turned three on October 8 this year. Despite their split, sources say the two remained in contact as co-parents.
Before his career in business, Champ was an athlete — a wide receiver for North Dakota State University’s football team during the 2005-2006 season. He later shifted gears into entrepreneurship, reportedly working in marketing and real estate ventures in Houston.
Tributes have been pouring in on social media since the news broke, with fans and friends expressing shock and sadness. Many praised Champ as a dedicated father and hard worker who “always put his family first.”
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, including whether speed or impairment played a role.
