In a new interview, Travis’ dad, Ed Kelce, spilled sweet details about how the Kansas City Chiefs star popped the question to the pop superstar at his home nearly two weeks before the couple announced their engagement on Instagram on August 26.
Ed shared that Travis originally planned to wait and make the moment a “big special event,” but decided instead to keep it intimate and meaningful. “You could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event,” Ed told News 5. He revealed that Travis asked Taylor to marry him right before dinner, after inviting her outside for a glass of wine.
The moment was simple but emotional — and soon after, the couple FaceTimed both families to share the big news. “As soon as I saw the FaceTime and saw Taylor there with him, I knew what they were going to say,” Ed recalled.
The couple later celebrated with Travis’ parents at his home, where Taylor cooked dinner for everyone. Ed described watching the pair together as “just crazy about each other.”
Swift, 35, announced the engagement on Instagram with the caption: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” showing off photos from their dreamy garden proposal. Her dazzling new ring, designed with jewelry artist Kindred Lubeck, features a massive Old Mine Brilliant Cut diamond.
For the big night, Swift wore a $398 Ralph Lauren striped silk dress with her signature red lip, while Kelce kept it classic in a navy collared shirt and loafers.
