Sofía Vergara presses the first-ever Live Show Golden Buzzer for Hakuna Matata Acrobatics on AGT.
The live shows for Season 19 of America’s Got Talent kicked off with a historic moment on August 13, as Sofía Vergara awarded the first-ever Live Show Golden Buzzer. The honor went to Hakuna Matata Acrobatics, a Tanzanian group that wowed the judges and audience with their daring and skillful performance.
The group, known for their incredible acrobatic tricks and precise balancing on rolling platforms, received unanimous praise from the judges. Simon Cowell described the act as “one of the most difficult, dangerous acts we’ve seen on a live show.” Howie Mandel and Heidi Klum were equally impressed, with Klum calling the performance “death-defying.”
Vergara, visibly moved by the performance, declared, “This was perfection! Everything, all of it!” before pressing the Golden Buzzer, sending Hakuna Matata Acrobatics straight to the finale.
The group’s members were overjoyed and expressed their deep gratitude for the opportunity, as they celebrated on stage with hugs and cheers.
This new twist in the competition allows each judge to use the Live Show Golden Buzzer during the four weeks of quarterfinals, guaranteeing the chosen acts a spot in the finale. Twelve acts will advance to the semifinals, with six ultimately joining the four Golden Buzzer winners in the finale, which will take place on September 17 and 24.
America’s Got Talent airs every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
