Barack Obama is adding more gold to his trophy shelf. The 44th President of the United States has officially won his third Emmy Award, taking home the prize for Outstanding Narrator at the Creative Arts Emmys for his work on Netflix’s breathtaking docuseries Our Oceans.

This victory makes Obama three-for-three at the Emmys. He previously scored wins for Our Great National Parks in 2022 and Working: What We Do All Day in 2023, both Netflix productions from his Higher Ground company.

This year, Obama went head-to-head with some of the biggest names in entertainment — David Attenborough (Planet Earth: Asia), Idris Elba (Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Color), Tom Hanks (The Americas), and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Octopus!).

Still, it was the former president’s calm and commanding narration that carried him to victory.

Premiering in November 2024, Our Oceans is a five-part natural history series that dives into the Pacific, Indian, Atlantic, Arctic, and Southern oceans. The show highlights not only the incredible beauty and intelligence of marine life but also how human choices on land ripple into the seas.

Executive produced by James Honeyborne of Blue Planet II, the project spans a jaw-dropping 75,000 miles of ocean exploration.

While Obama didn’t attend the awards ceremony, his win cements his place in Emmy history. He’s now the first U.S. president to take home multiple competitive Emmys for specific television projects. President Dwight D. Eisenhower was awarded a Governors Award back in 1956, but Obama’s wins are tied to creative contributions — a major distinction.

On top of his three Emmys, Obama also holds a Grammy, making him one step closer to the rare EGOT status (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). Not bad for a man whose day job used to be running the country.

Whether it’s politics, podcasts, or powerful documentaries, Obama continues to prove his voice has global influence — and Hollywood is listening.
