Brad Pitt spent this year’s Fourth of July far from typical barbecues and fireworks displays, instead dedicating his time to filming his upcoming racing movie, “F1,” at the Silverstone Circuit in Northampton, England.

The 60-year-old Oscar-winning actor was seen on the opening day of the British Grand Prix, dressed in a racing jumpsuit and sunglasses, immersing himself in the world of Formula 1 racing as part of the movie’s extensive on-location filming schedule.

The movie, set to hit theaters on June 27, 2025, features an ensemble cast that includes Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia, and Samson Kayo.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for “Top Gun: Maverick,” the film portrays Pitt as a former F1 driver who makes a comeback to the sport, teaming up with Idris’s character at the fictional team APXGP.

Pitt has been deeply involved in the production, which is being created in collaboration with Formula 1 and the F1 community, including the 10 F1 teams, their drivers, the FIA, and race promoters.

The authenticity of the movie is further bolstered by the involvement of Lewis Hamilton, one of Formula 1’s most popular drivers, who is working on the project as a producer. The movie has been filming at various Grand Prix events throughout the F1 season, capturing the thrill and intensity of the races firsthand.

Last July, Pitt was also present at the British Grand Prix alongside his co-star Damson Idris, filming crucial scenes for the movie. He continued this immersive experience in January, when he and Javier Bardem were seen on set in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

This hands-on approach to filming, particularly during actual Grand Prix weekends, aims to bring an unparalleled level of realism to the movie, as the fictional team APXGP competes against the real titans of the sport.

In an interview with Sky Sports F1 presenter Martin Brundle during his visit to the British Grand Prix in July 2023, Pitt shared more details about the movie’s storyline.

He described his character as a former driver brought back to the sport “as kind of a Hail Mary,” hinting at the dramatic and high-stakes nature of the plot.

Pitt also expressed his excitement about the film’s innovative approach to capturing the racing scenes, stating, “Tell you what’s amazing about it, you’ll see the cameras come out all over the car, the shots—you’ve never seen speed, you’ve never seen G forces like this. It’s really, really exciting.”

The film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, known for his work on major blockbusters, praised Pitt’s dedication and natural talent behind the wheel.

At the premiere of “Young Woman and the Sea” in May, Bruckheimer revealed that Pitt had undergone extensive training for the role. “He trained for four or five months to compete behind the wheel. He’s an amazing driver,” Bruckheimer said. “In fact, some of the F1 drivers said he’s a natural athlete. He really is. He’s amazing in that car.”

The dedication of the cast and crew to authenticity and realism is a defining feature of this project. By filming during actual F1 events and collaborating closely with the F1 community, the filmmakers aim to provide audiences with an unprecedented cinematic experience of the high-octane world of Formula 1 racing.

The star-studded cast, combined with the expertise of director Joseph Kosinski and the backing of veteran producer Jerry Bruckheimer, sets high expectations for “F1.”

The film promises to deliver a thrilling and immersive depiction of the sport, showcasing the intense competition and the personal stories of the drivers who navigate this high-pressure environment.

As fans eagerly await the movie’s release in 2025, the excitement is already building around the unique approach taken by the filmmakers.

By capturing the essence of Formula 1 racing and combining it with a compelling narrative, “F1” is poised to be a standout film that appeals to both racing enthusiasts and general audiences alike.
