Bret Michaels, the legendary frontman of Poison, has achieved incredible success in his career, selling millions of albums and performing at thousands of shows worldwide.

Despite these professional achievements, Michaels, 61, finds his greatest joy in being a father to his two daughters, Raine Michaels and Jorja Michaels.

“Hands down, I love being a dad,” Michaels shares with PEOPLE in an exclusive interview ahead of the premiere of his new A&E Biography series. “I wanted to be a dad. I love being a dad. … It’s an incredible feeling.”

Michaels shares his daughters with his longtime partner, Kristi Lynn Gibson.

Raine Michaels, born on May 20, 2000, and Jorja Michaels, born on May 5, 2005, have grown up in the shadow of their father’s rock star status, but Michaels has always prioritized his role as a father.

However, balancing a demanding career and fatherhood has not been without its challenges.

“There have been some painful spots,” Michaels admits, referring to the times when his career has kept him away from important moments in his daughters’ lives.

“When there was something big going on [in their lives], but we were, let’s say, overseas or somewhere, those are tough moments.”

He credits modern technology with helping to bridge the gap during these times, allowing him to stay connected with his family despite the physical distance.

Raine, who is pursuing a career in sports journalism, was recently featured by her proud father on Instagram.

In February, Michaels posted a photo of Raine holding a microphone while conducting an interview for the San Diego Seals on ESPN+.

“Raine Michaels, right in the action with the San Diego Seals live on ESPN+,” he captioned the image, expressing his pride in her accomplishments.

Jorja, the younger of the two sisters, has embarked on a different path, focusing on the beauty industry.

She launched her own hair and beauty account, J Bleu Hair, late last year, where she shares her journey through hair school in Los Angeles.

Jorja’s passion for beauty and creativity has also influenced her father’s music. She co-wrote the song “Unbroken” with Michaels for his 2019 album of the same name.

The track, which emphasizes resilience and positivity, is a testament to the bond between father and daughter.

“This song is about triumph versus tragedy. This song right here is about being stronger than the storm,” Michaels wrote on his website.

“I have been a diabetic my whole life — five injections a day — been through a lot. I hope that this song will empower you and make you feel awesome.”

The influence of Michaels’ daughters on his music is evident in other tracks as well. In 2003, he released “Raine,” a song dedicated to his firstborn, and in 2017, he released “Jorja Bleu,” inspired by his younger daughter. These songs capture the profound impact his children have had on his life and career.

As Michaels continues his Parti-Gras 2.0 Tour, he remains committed to his family, constantly finding ways to integrate his personal life with his professional obligations.

The upcoming A&E Biography series, set to premiere on June 16 at 9 p.m. EST, will offer fans a deeper look into Michaels’ life, including his experiences as a father and the challenges he has faced along the way.

The series will also be available to stream the following day, providing an intimate glimpse into the man behind the music.

For Michaels, fatherhood is not just a role but a profound source of joy and fulfillment. His love for his daughters is evident in his words and actions, reflecting a dedication that transcends his rock star persona.

Despite the demands of his career, Bret Michaels continues to prioritize his family, embracing the incredible feeling of being a dad.

In a world where the pressures of fame can often overshadow personal relationships, Michaels’ story is a reminder of the importance of family and the enduring bond between a father and his children.

As he celebrates his daughters’ achievements and supports their dreams, Michaels exemplifies the true essence of fatherhood, proving that even rock stars have a soft spot for the ones they love most.
