In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Daniel Francis shares insights into his character, Lord Marcus Anderson, and his evolving relationship with Lady Violet Bridgerton in the latter part of “Bridgerton” season 3.

Francis highlights the unique journey of his character and Lady Violet as they navigate a second chance at love, a theme not yet explored in the series.

The season unfolds with Marcus and Violet deciding to get their personal affairs in order before seriously pursuing their relationship. This decision marks a pivotal moment for both characters.

Marcus, portrayed by Francis, works to mend his relationship with his sister, Lady Danbury, while Violet focuses on her daughter’s wedding.

The culmination of these events is a poignant dance shared by Marcus and Violet, symbolizing their readiness to embark on a new chapter together.

“I think they are both enjoying the process of finding each other out,” Francis says. “It’s a discovery process. And I think that’s the beautiful thing about their story, which we haven’t seen in Bridgerton up until this point, is that it’s the second chance.”

Francis elaborates on the distinct energy that comes with a second chance at love. He notes that while both characters are confident, there is a palpable nervousness when they are alone together.

This dynamic adds depth to their interactions, making their journey of getting to know each other both exciting and tender.

Marcus’s backstory is integral to understanding his character’s motivations. He reveals that his first marriage was not based on love, a stark contrast to what he hopes to find with Violet.

Violet, on the other hand, deeply loved her late husband, Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, who passed away before the birth of their youngest child.

This shared history of loss and longing for a true connection binds them, making their developing relationship all the more meaningful.

Reflecting on the future of Marcus and Violet, Francis believes they are both deserving of love. He points out that both characters were devoted spouses in their previous marriages, which adds a layer of poignancy to their current relationship.

“They both lost their partners and both have been devoted husband and wife,” he says. “And so you’d love to see their happily ever after, and the second chances do exist and they do happen.”

Francis expresses a keen interest in the journey ahead for Marcus and Violet. He is curious about how their relationship will develop, especially since it is not part of the original novels.

This uncharted territory provides an opportunity for the show to explore new narrative possibilities and deepen the character arcs.

When asked about the potential for a season centered around Violet, Francis is enthusiastic. He believes Violet is a beloved character who deserves to have her story fully explored.

“Violet’s one of the beloved characters. So she’s been so devoted as a mother and really just kind of subordinated her own desire to the point where she hasn’t even felt the desires,” he remarks.

Francis envisions a future where Violet’s children have grown and left the nest, leaving her to rediscover her own desires and needs.

He suggests that it would be almost tragic for Violet to be alone after dedicating so much of her life to her family. “For her to have that, to experience that would be beautiful,” he concludes.

As “Bridgerton” season 3 continues to stream on Netflix, fans are eager to see how Marcus and Violet’s story unfolds.
