Pop sensation Conan Gray has unveiled his highly anticipated sophomore album, Wishbone, set for release on August 15, 2025, via an emotional Instagram post that has fans buzzing with excitement.
The announcement, shared through a heartfelt caption, also teased the lead single, “This Song,” dropping in just one week.
In a candid reflection, Gray revealed that Wishbone was born out of two years of secret songwriting, crafted in stolen moments—basements of concert venues, hotel rooms, and quiet gaps between tours. “I’d come back home and write all the things I felt nobody wanted to hear.
Maybe even the things I didn’t want people to hear,” Gray wrote, describing the deeply personal process behind the album. Initially, he had no intention of releasing the music, keeping it hidden from friends and his label.
However, the songs became a lifeline, a “niche soundtrack” to his life and those of his close friends, shared in intimate moments like car rides and late-night subway trips.
Gray, now in his mid-twenties, described the album as a journey of self-discovery, capturing fragments of his past—his childhood in Texas, summers in London, and college days in his apartment.
Collaborating with longtime producer Dan Nigro, alongside Ethan Gruska, Noah Conrad, Elvira Anderfjärd, and Luka Kloser, Gray began recording without a clear plan, only to find an album taking shape. “I didn’t know what story I was telling, I was just living in it,” he shared.
The album cover, shot by photographer Dillon Matthew (who also worked on Gray’s debut), features embroidery by his best friend Ashley (@criminalknits), adding a personal touch to the project.
Wishbone, entirely written by Gray “in my bed in my pajamas,” promises to be an introspective exploration of identity and emotion, with every track reflecting slivers of the artist’s life he’s now ready to share.
Fans can pre-order the album now, and anticipation is high for the release of “This Song” next week, which Gray hints will set the tone for the album’s raw, authentic narrative.
Gray’s cryptic postscript—“a wishbone never breaks even”—has sparked speculation about the album’s themes, suggesting a story of uneven odds, heartbreak, and resilience.
As the release date approaches, Wishbone is poised to solidify Conan Gray’s place as one of pop’s most introspective and relatable voices.
