As anticipation builds for Black Panther 3, fans are eager to learn which actors will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next installment of the beloved franchise.

One name stirring up buzz is British actor Damson Idris. Known for his breakout role in FX’s Snowfall, Idris recently addressed the growing rumors linking him to a role in the upcoming film — but he wasn’t exactly direct.

During an appearance on NBC’s Today show, Idris was asked whether he had been in contact with Marvel Studios about possibly joining Black Panther 3.

His response was a playful “yes-no,” leaving both the hosts and fans scratching their heads. When pressed further, he offered a cheeky response, saying, “It could mean no.” However, when asked if he would take the role if offered, Idris gave a clear and enthusiastic “yes.”

The Black Panther franchise, directed by Ryan Coogler, has carried immense cultural and cinematic weight since the late Chadwick Boseman first portrayed T’Challa in Captain America: Civil War (2016).

Boseman continued the role through Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Following Boseman’s death from colon cancer in 2020, Marvel Studios made the decision not to recast T’Challa.

Instead, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) honored Boseman’s legacy, passing the mantle to Letitia Wright’s character, Shuri.

Now, with Black Panther 3 in development, speculation about the new cast is intensifying. In a separate revelation, legendary actor Denzel Washington hinted at his involvement in the project.

While promoting Gladiator II in Australia in November 2024, Washington shared that Coogler was “writing a part” for him — a statement Coogler later confirmed.

Whether or not Damson Idris officially joins the cast, fans remain excited to see how the next chapter unfolds in Wakanda.

With Ryan Coogler at the helm and Marvel known for its tight-lipped casting decisions, it’s likely we won’t get definitive answers anytime soon — but the hype is definitely building.
