Eric André, the Emmy-nominated comedian known for his outrageous antics, recently shared some of the injuries he’s endured on The Eric Andre Show.

Speaking to PEOPLE, André, 41, recounted how a stunt involving WWE star John Cena led to a hospital visit.

In a wild moment during season 5, Cena threw André through a shelf. “I got through the shelf okay, but we forgot to sandbag the shelf,” André explained.

The metal frame of the shelf tipped over, hitting him in the head and causing a concussion. André had to go to the hospital to get checked out.

This wasn’t André’s first injury on the show. He also recalled accidentally putting his hand through a window during a prank in Brooklyn, which required stitches. Despite these mishaps, André seems to take the risks in stride, considering them just another part of the job.

The unpredictable and sometimes dangerous nature of The Eric Andre Show is a key reason it has become one of the most entertaining and chaotic shows on TV.

Over six seasons, the Adult Swim series has featured a range of celebrity guests, from Jon Hamm to Jimmy Kimmel. André’s pranks often catch his guests off guard, with surprises like explosions and cockroaches, ensuring even the most prepared celebrities are genuinely shocked.

André’s unique comedy style has earned him two Emmy nominations this year: one for outstanding performer in a short form comedy or drama series, and another for outstanding short form comedy, drama or variety series.

Reflecting on the recognition, André said he was thrilled. “We’ve been doing the show for over 10 years, so to even just get the acknowledgement of the nomination is amazing,” he shared.

Looking ahead, André has big dreams for the show’s future, including an episode filmed entirely underwater. He also expressed a controversial wish to interview Ghislaine Maxwell, suggesting she “has stories to tell.”

Off-screen, André’s life is much more grounded. He prioritizes his mental health through daily exercise, getting enough sleep, therapy sessions, and journaling.

He also has a passion for interior design, surprising visitors with his neat and organized living space, which contrasts with his wild on-screen persona.

André isn’t afraid to speak out on serious issues either. Recently, he took to Instagram to discuss being racially profiled at Melbourne Airport, calling out the treatment he received and seeking legal advice on discrimination.

Fans can catch up on The Eric Andre Show on Hulu, and see if André takes home an Emmy when the awards air on September 15.
