Grimes has officially pulled out of her scheduled Pride event performance, citing “family issues” as the reason.

The 37-year-old Canadian singer, born Claire Boucher, shared the news on May 25 via X (formerly Twitter), expressing regret to her fans. “I am so so sorry and regretful to say I have to cancel my pride show,” she wrote, noting that she hoped the early notice would allow fans to adjust their plans.

Though she didn’t name the event specifically, Grimes was listed as a performer for the upcoming World Pride Music Festival in Washington, D.C., set for June 6–7. The event features big-name headliners like Jennifer Lopez and Troye Sivan, as well as Paris Hilton, Kim Petras, Rita Ora, and more.

Grimes reassured fans that the rest of the show would still be “amazing,” and promised, “I will make this up to you guys very soon.”

While she didn’t go into details about the “family issues,” many speculate they’re tied to her ongoing drama with ex Elon Musk, with whom she shares three children: X Æ A-Xii, Exa Dark Sideræl, and Techno Mechanicus.

Their co-parenting struggles have made headlines, particularly after Grimes tweeted in March about trying to keep their children out of the spotlight. She claimed she had even taken legal action, asking Musk to stop sharing photos of their kids online. One of her tweets responded to a fake viral post and a fan’s concern, saying, “I have tried begging the public and my kid’s dad to keep them offline.”

Things got more intense when she discovered — through a follower — that their son X had visited the Oval Office with Musk, who’s currently serving as a senior advisor to Donald Trump. “He should not be in public like this,” she posted, adding she was unaware of the visit.

Back in February, Grimes also posted (and later deleted) tweets accusing Musk of ignoring a “medical crisis” involving one of their kids. “This requires immediate attention,” she wrote, clearly frustrated.

Neither Grimes nor the World Pride event has commented further at this time.
