Prime Video renews “Invincible” for Season 5 ahead of Season 4’s 2026 debut; Matthew Rhys joins voice cast as mystery character, possibly Thragg.
Prime Video has once again shown its confidence in the animated superhero series Invincible by renewing the show for a fifth season—months before viewers have even seen Season 4.
The early greenlight continues a pattern of advance renewals that has become a hallmark of the streaming service’s commitment to the Skybound Entertainment and Amazon MGM Studios production.
The Season 5 renewal announcement arrives approximately four months after Season 3 concluded in March, and more than a year before Season 4 is slated to premiere in 2026. Season 3 not only wrapped up with critical acclaim but also achieved the distinction of becoming Prime Video’s most-watched animated season to date.
In line with that success, Prime Video first ordered Season 4 in July 2024—nearly six months ahead of Season 3’s debut—and initially renewed Season 3 shortly after the series’ inaugural season dropped in 2021.
Adding to the excitement for upcoming episodes, Emmy-nominated actor Matthew Rhys has joined the Season 4 voice cast.
While his exact role has not been confirmed, series creator Robert Kirkman hinted in a recent Variety interview that the powerful Viltrumite warlord Thragg—a principal antagonist in the original Image Comics source material—will make his live-action debut in the new season.
“He’s been cast and he’s amazing,” Kirkman remarked, though he stopped short of explicitly naming Rhys as Thragg.
Invincible follows Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun), a teenager who inherits superhuman abilities from his father, Nolan (J.K. Simmons), the most powerful superhero on Earth. The show has been praised for its blend of character-driven drama, visceral action, and willingness to subvert genre conventions.
Season 3’s record-breaking viewership and recent accolades underscore its growing cultural footprint: this week, Invincible earned its second Emmy nomination, with Yeun up for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance—his first nod for the series.
As the countdown to Season 4 begins, Prime Video’s early renewal ensures that production can continue without interruption, allowing fans to look forward to new storylines and characters well into 2027.
With Rhys bolstering the cast and the creative team headed by Kirkman, the franchise is poised to build on its blockbuster success and expand its animated universe even further.
