Carol Bongiovi, the mother of rock star Jon Bon Jovi, has died at the age of 83. She passed away on Tuesday, July 9, just three days before her 84th birthday. Carol died at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey.
In a statement provided to PEOPLE, Jon Bon Jovi, 62, expressed his family’s grief, saying, “Our mother was a force to be reckoned with, her spirit and can-do attitude shaped this family. She will be greatly missed.”
Carol Bongiovi was known not only as the mother of the famous musician but also for her entrepreneurial spirit and service to her country.
Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Carol enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959. It was during her time in the military that she met her future husband, John Bongiovi, Sr.
The couple eventually moved to Sayreville, New Jersey, where they raised their family. Carol was the founder of the fan club for her son’s band, Bon Jovi, and was actively involved in various business ventures.
Her determination and positive attitude were well-known among those who knew her.
Later in life, Carol and her husband settled in Holmdel, New Jersey, where she lived until her passing.
She was remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, whose strength and spirit left a lasting impact on her family and community.
