Josh Hartnett credits the city of Chicago for keeping his cameo in the third season of “The Bear” under wraps.

The 45-year-old actor appears as Frank, the new fiancé of Richie’s (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) ex-wife Tiffany (Gillian Jacobs), in episode 4 of the hit FX series.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hartnett revealed that he accepted the role before even reading the script. His eagerness stemmed from his desire to work with Chris Storer, the creator of “The Bear” and a longtime friend.

“I said yes right away,” Hartnett admitted, emphasizing his excitement to collaborate with Storer, who also directs the show.

Hartnett praised Storer’s precision and the trust that the cast places in his process. The ensemble, which includes Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri, relies heavily on Storer’s vision and direction.

“They really trust his process,” Hartnett noted, highlighting the seamless teamwork on set.

Filming in Chicago added another layer of support for the show. Hartnett spoke highly of the city’s protective nature towards “The Bear.”

“People there love that show, and it feels like it’s an unwritten rule that you don’t spoil it,” he said. The actor appreciated the city’s commitment to maintaining the show’s surprises, making his cameo reveal more impactful.

Hartnett’s involvement in the show was a well-kept secret. He shared the news only with his parents, who are fans of the show, and a few close friends.

With a small, low-key circle and no presence on social media, he found it easy to keep his role under wraps. “Who am I really going to tell?” he joked.

The camaraderie on set also stood out to Hartnett. White, Edebiri, and Moss-Bachrach are known for their close-knit relationships both on and off the set, and this dynamic extends to the entire cast and crew.

Hartnett described the atmosphere as one of friends making a show together, rather than just a workplace. “Actors just come to set and hang out even on their days off,” he said.

“It feels like a group of friends making a show at university or something. Yet it’s this phenomenal success.”

Season 3 of “The Bear” continues to follow Carmy (White), Sydney (Edebiri), and Richie as they strive to elevate their beef stand-turned-fine-dining establishment to new heights.

Despite the challenges of staying in business, the characters’ dedication to their craft remains unwavering.

In addition to Hartnett, the third season features notable cameos from John Cena, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Mulaney, Will Poulter, and Olivia Colman.

The show’s ability to attract such high-profile guest stars is a testament to its success and the strong reputation it has built over its previous seasons.
