Keanu Reeves Isn’t Sold on Constantine 2 Scripts – Wants to Keep It Spiritual, Not Superhero

Keanu Reeves isn’t happy with Constantine 2 scripts, says co-star. He wants a spiritual sequel, not a Marvel-style action blockbuster.

Keanu Reeves fans might be eager for Constantine 2, but according to his co-star Peter Stormare, Reeves isn’t loving the direction the sequel is taking.

In a recent interview with The Direct, Stormare, who played Lucifer in the 2005 original and will reprise his role, shared that the scripts for the sequel haven’t hit the mark for Reeves.

“Keanu is not so happy with the scripts,” Stormare revealed, pointing out that the studio seems to want a blockbuster-style sequel with lots of over-the-top action — think flying cars and superhero-style fights.

But Reeves, who’s already done action-heavy roles like John Wick, wants to keep Constantine rooted in its spiritual, supernatural themes.

Reeves reportedly told Stormare, “This movie is spiritual. It’s about demons and regular people. I wanted to keep it that way.” He’s not interested in turning Constantine 2 into a Marvel-style spectacle with harnesses, shootouts, and big explosions.

Stormare agreed, saying the original film slowly became a cult classic, and it didn’t need flashy action to win over fans. He believes the sequel should stick to that same eerie, thoughtful vibe. “You don’t have to add a lot of action… Don’t turn it into big Marvel,” he said.

Reeves has even met with DC Studios about the project, as Constantine is based on the Hellblazer comic from DC and Vertigo. But both he and Stormare seem to be pushing back on turning the movie into just another superhero flick.

Director Francis Lawrence, who helmed the first film, is set to return, but with the creative tension still unresolved, there’s no word yet on when filming will begin.

For now, it sounds like Reeves is holding out for a script that honors the dark, moody tone that made the original a fan favorite. And honestly, we’re with him — no capes, just creepy vibes, please.
