The ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’ hosts playfully clashed over their very different travel styles — and things got adorably tense on-air.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are no strangers to a little on-air banter, but their latest back-and-forth about traveling together might just be one of their funniest yet.
During Wednesday’s (Oct. 22) episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the longtime couple and cohosts got into a lighthearted argument after Ripa, 55, suggested they consider trying out an “airport divorce.”
The trend, she explained, involves couples parting ways when they reach the airport and reuniting at the gate — a move Ripa thinks could save their marriage some mid-travel stress.
“Couples are doing something unique, and I think we could do well with this: an airport divorce,” Ripa said with a laugh. “Because you and I have different traveling philosophies.”
That was all it took for Consuelos, 54, to jump in. “What do you mean? Like, I walk fast in the airport?” he asked, sounding slightly defensive.
Ripa quickly teased her husband about how early he insists on arriving for flights. “You need to get there four to sixteen hours before the flight takes off,” she joked, as Consuelos tried to defend himself. “That’s not true,” he said. “I like to be there about 90 minutes early.”
Their bickering got even more entertaining when Ripa accused Consuelos of getting “irritated” at the airport — not at fans, but at her. “You are very nice to people, but you get irritated with me,” she said.
“I don’t get irritated with you,” Consuelos shot back. “I’m irritated with you right now for trying to throw me under the bus.”
The audience couldn’t stop laughing as Ripa recalled a recent airport incident where Consuelos’ TSA PreCheck had expired. She stayed with him in the longer security line out of solidarity — and ended up regretting it. “The line was too slow, and he got irritated with me!” Ripa told viewers. “This is the part where you say, ‘Thank you, honey, for waiting with me.’”
Consuelos laughed off her version, saying their memories didn’t quite match. “You go through life 30 years with someone, and when they tell a story, you’re like, ‘Who are you?’” he joked.
But Ripa wasn’t done poking fun. “Now I’m taking my shoes off, everything’s out of my bag, and Mark’s still irritated with me,” she teased. “The airport divorce is what we’re definitely getting.”
The couple’s playful energy continued later in the episode as they debated car washing duties. When Ripa declared she didn’t have time to hand-wash a car, Consuelos jokingly brought up her habit of putting her feet on the dashboard. “I see toe prints on the windshield,” he teased.
Laughing but clearly amused, Ripa replied, “I’ve got to stretch!”
Consuelos summed up their morning perfectly: “We’re having a day today.”
Ripa, smiling, warned him, “Oh, you are going down!” before he laughed to the audience, “Just watching married people quarrel on TV — it’s fun! Mom and dad, fighting again!”
