Streaming Success Propels ‘King of the Hill’ Into Its Next Chapter With Seasons 16 and 17.

Hulu is keeping the propane tank full: King of the Hill has been officially renewed for two more seasons, marking seasons 16 and 17 overall for the beloved animated comedy.
These will also serve as the show’s third and fourth seasons as a Hulu original, following its successful revival after its original 13-season run on Fox.
For years before the revival became a reality, King of the Hill was at the center of ongoing speculation and nostalgic demand. Back in 2017, Fox executives confirmed early conversations with creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels about a possible return, sparking widespread excitement online and across fan communities.
By 2020, Daniels publicly teased that he and Judge “had an idea” for a new chapter, further fueling fan campaigns calling for a full revival.
Another major topic of discussion in recent years was the passing of beloved cast members, which deeply affected fans and the creative team.
Johnny Hardwick, the iconic voice of Dale Gribble, died in 2023 after completing early voice work for the revival, prompting an outpouring of tributes and questions about how the show would handle his character. Jonathan Joss, who voiced John Redcorn, passed away in June 2, 2025.
These emotional moments led to renewed media coverage, with fans expressing hope that the revival would honor both actors’ legacies while carrying the series forward.
The revival has proven to be a strong performer for Hulu. When Season 14 premiered in August, it generated an impressive 1.21 billion viewing minutes in its first week, according to Nielsen, with more than 75% coming from the brand-new episodes.
The show remained on Nielsen’s Top 10 Original Streaming Series list for four weeks, accumulating 2.91 billion minutes—or 485 million hours—of total watch time during that period. Disney further reports that across Hulu and Disney+, the show has now surpassed 1 billion hours watched worldwide, reinforcing its enduring cultural impact.
After Hulu officially revived the series in 2023, creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels returned to lead the project, joined by original cast members Judge, Kathy Najimy, Pamela Adlon, Stephen Root, Lauren Tom, Toby Huss, and the late Johnny Hardwick.
The show is executive-produced by Judge and Daniels alongside showrunner Saladin Patterson, Michael Rotenberg and Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment, and Dustin Davis of Bandera Entertainment. 20th Television Animation serves as the studio behind the revival.
With Season 15 scheduled to premiere in 2026, Hulu’s decision to extend the series through Seasons 16 and 17 shows its confidence in the franchise and its commitment to keeping the Hill family thriving for longtime fans and new audiences alike.
