Laganja Estranja, a beloved alum from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 6, has shared significant news about her journey as a transgender woman.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the GLAAD X POSSE Pride Party earlier this month in Hollywood, Estranja opened up about her experiences and future plans three years after publicly coming out.

“The journey has been amazing so far,” Estranja, 35, expressed to PEOPLE. She noted that while her journey has had its challenges, she is now ready to explore surgical options to further align her body with her gender identity.

“That doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with complications or things that are difficult. But I am finally ready to start exploring surgery, so I’ve had some consultations and just looking at approaching it the most natural way possible.”

Estranja, known for her dynamic performances and acrobatic tricks, clarified that she is seeking less invasive procedures. “I’m very fearful of implants, of my body rejecting them,” she explained.

Instead of traditional implants, Estranja is considering a fat transfer procedure. “Right now I’m looking at doing a fat transfer, so that would kill two problems at once.

I would get skinny where I need to be and put it where I want it,” she said with a laugh.

The performer is enthusiastic about the prospect of achieving the desired curves without resorting to highly invasive surgeries.

This approach aligns with her preference for more natural methods and addresses her concerns about potential complications from implants.

June has been an exceptionally busy month for Estranja. She has been actively participating in numerous Pride events, highlighting her prominence in the LGBTQ+ community.

One of the standout moments of her month was performing alongside pop star Kesha to kick off Pride Month.

“Pride has been insane for me! I opened the main stage with Morphine Love Dion from the current season of Drag Race and I got to hold Kesha’s hand and do a jump split next to her!” she recounted. “It was iconic.”

In addition to her live performances, Estranja has also been working on new music. She recently released a Pride anthem titled “HAWT” on June 20. “I think it’s just all about feeling fierce and having fun this summer,” she said of her new track.

“I wanted to make something lighthearted, something that people could put on when they were getting ready to feel good and feel jazzed up before they go out.”

Estranja’s involvement in Pride events and her musical endeavors reflect her vibrant personality and commitment to celebrating LGBTQ+ pride.

Her dedication to staying active through performances and maintaining her physical health is evident. When asked about her fitness routine, she shared a tip for staying in shape.

“I definitely do a lot of performances which keeps me active, but also hot yoga,” she recommended.

Estranja’s journey to self-acceptance and her decision to come out as transgender in June 2021 was inspired by the courage and resilience of other women in the community.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she reflected on what motivated her to make this significant step.

“There are so many other women around me who’ve inspired me to come forward today, and it’s because of their fight and their struggle that I’m able to really do this and say that I’m nervous, but I’m not scared,” Estranja said. “I’m not going to live my life in fear anymore.”

Her story underscores the importance of representation and the impact of seeing others live authentically.

Estranja’s willingness to share her journey publicly not only empowers her but also serves as a beacon of hope for others navigating their own paths.

As she continues to explore surgical options and further embrace her identity, Estranja remains a powerful figure in the LGBTQ+ community.

Her openness about her fears and aspirations resonates with many, highlighting the complexities and triumphs of transitioning.
