In a tragic incident, the father of Bollywood actress and model Malaika Arora, Anil Arora, passed away by suicide on Wednesday.

Anil, a former member of the Indian Merchant Navy, was originally from Fazilka, a town near the India-Pakistan border. He was of Punjabi Hindu descent. His ex-wife, Joyce Polycarp, is a Malayali Christian from the state of Kerala. Malaika Arora and her younger sister, Amrita Arora, were raised by their mother in Mumbai following their parents’ separation when Malaika was 11 years old.
