The pop icon and Six-time Grammy winner will be celebrated for her legendary music career and decades of philanthropic work.

There’s only one Mariah Carey — and now, the music icon is set to receive one of the industry’s most prestigious honors.
The Six-time Grammy winner has been named the MusiCares 2026 Person of the Year, recognizing both her extraordinary musical legacy and her deep commitment to philanthropy.
Carey will be celebrated at a star-studded gala on January 30, 2026, at the Los Angeles Convention Center, just two days before the Grammy Awards. The annual MusiCares event, known for bringing together some of the biggest names in entertainment, raises funds to support programs for musicians and communities in need.
The honor comes on the heels of Carey’s latest creative chapter, following the release of her 16th studio album, “Here For It All.” With a career that spans over three decades, the “We Belong Together” singer has not only redefined pop and R&B but also inspired generations of artists with her five-octave range, songwriting brilliance, and record-breaking success.
But MusiCares is recognizing more than just her unmatched artistry. Carey has long used her platform to make a difference. Over the years, she’s provided disaster relief for victims of Hurricane Katrina and the COVID-19 pandemic, and through her work with the Fresh Air Fund, she founded Camp Mariah, a career awareness camp that gives underserved youth opportunities to explore their potential.
“We are honored to recognize Mariah Carey as this year’s MusiCares Person of the Year, a true creative force and once-in-a-generation talent,” said Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy and MusiCares. “Her artistry and her voice have helped shape the sound of our times. We look forward to celebrating her remarkable career on this very special night.”
Theresa Wolters, executive director of MusiCares, echoed those sentiments, noting that Carey’s “influence extends far beyond her remarkable artistry.” She added, “Mariah has consistently provided tangible support to communities in need, from disaster relief to youth empowerment.
Her work embodies the spirit of MusiCares — creating systems of care that help people thrive.”
Carey joins a long and impressive list of past MusiCares honorees including Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, Jon Bon Jovi, Tom Petty, and Grateful Dead.
For fans and peers alike, this latest recognition only reaffirms what the world already knows — Mariah Carey isn’t just the Queen of Christmas; she’s a timeless force of music, compassion, and empowerment.
