Mel Brooks has officially announced a long-awaited sequel to his 1987 sci-fi spoof Spaceballs.

At 98, the comedy legend teased the return with a humorous video posted on X on June 12, declaring, “I told you we’d be back.”

The video mimics Star Wars-style scrolling text, poking fun at the overwhelming number of sequels and spinoffs in franchises like Dune, Marvel, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, and more.

It emphasizes that only one Spaceballs has existed—until now.

Brooks will reprise his role as Yogurt, and the sequel is set to hit theaters in 2027. At the end of the teaser, he jokingly says, “After 40 years, we asked, ‘What do the fans want?’ But instead, we’re making this movie,” followed by the line “The Schwartz awakens in 2027.”

Amazon MGM Studios described the project as “A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.”

Josh Greenbaum will direct, and Josh Gad is co-writing and producing. Gad, a longtime fan, shared his excitement, noting Spaceballs inspired him before he ever saw Star Wars.

Returning cast members include Bill Pullman as Lone Starr and Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet, marking a rare appearance for Moranis after decades away from film.

Keke Palmer and Lewis Pullman (Bill Pullman’s son) are also joining the cast. Title and plot details remain under wraps.
