Mindy Kaling, known for her role in The Mindy Project, has expanded her family.

The 45-year-old actress quietly welcomed her third child earlier this year, a baby girl named Anne.

Kaling shared the joyful news on Instagram on Monday, June 24, with heartfelt reflections on motherhood and photos capturing the special moments.

In her Instagram post, Kaling posted an adorable picture of Anne with her older siblings, 6-year-old Katherine, affectionately known as “Kit,” and 3-year-old Spencer. The post also included a photo of Kaling showing her baby bump and a touching snapshot of her in a hospital bed with Kit and Spencer.

“In late February I gave birth to my daughter, Anne. She’s the best birthday present I could’ve ever imagined,” Kaling began her caption.

She continued by expressing how her children bring her immense joy, especially during challenging times. “When things are hard, whenever I veer towards cynicism, my three kids are such a great reminder of the pure joy in my life.

I’m so lucky I live in a place where I could do this by myself, on my own timeline. Thanks for all the birthday wishes!”

Kaling has always been private about her personal life, particularly when it comes to the identity of her children’s father, which she has chosen not to disclose.

Since her surprise announcement of her first pregnancy in 2017, she has been managing her growing family while continuing her successful career.

Balancing motherhood and her professional life, Kaling acknowledges the importance of having a support system. In a 2021 interview with PEOPLE, she mentioned that raising her children requires “a village.”

This village includes her nanny, her father Avu, and close friend Reese Witherspoon, whom Kaling praises for providing valuable parenting advice.

Despite her busy schedule, Kaling is keen on protecting her children’s privacy. She prefers to keep their faces off social media until they are old enough to decide for themselves if they want to be part of the public sphere.

“I feel like I might as well wait until they get old enough so they can tell me if they want to be part of my social media or not,” she told PEOPLE. However, Kaling admits that it’s not always easy to stick to this plan.

“I’m like any parent where I’m proud of the things they do,” she explained. “I think they’re so cute, and of course, I want other people to see it.”

In May, Kaling appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show and discussed her children’s potential interest in following her footsteps into the entertainment industry.

She shared that her daughter Kit has shown some interest in musical theater, though her enthusiasm waned when she didn’t get the lead role. “So far I could see my daughter doing it a little bit,” Kaling said.

“She did a little bit of musical theater and liked it, but again, wanted to be the star of the production and wasn’t and thus kind of lost interest.”

As for her son Spencer, Kaling mentioned that he is more reserved. “Not so much,” she said about his potential future in the industry. “He’s a little bit more shy.”

Kaling’s announcement of Anne’s birth has been met with an outpouring of love and congratulatory messages from fans and fellow celebrities.

The actress’s journey as a single mother of three is both inspiring and heartwarming, showcasing her strength and dedication to her children.

Kaling continues to be a role model for many, balancing her successful career in Hollywood with her responsibilities as a mother.

Her openness about the challenges and joys of parenting resonates with many, and her latest announcement only adds to the admiration people have for her.
