Prince William celebrated his 42nd birthday in a unique way, attending Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour concert at Wembley Stadium in London on June 21 with his three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

The royal family members were spotted enjoying the first night of Swift’s London tour stop, confirming their status as fans of the pop superstar.

The event was more than just a concert outing for the royal family; it doubled as a birthday celebration for the Prince of Wales.

The attendance of Prince William and his children was shared by royal reporter Roya Nikkhah on X, creating a buzz among fans and followers.

Conspicuously absent from the outing was Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales. Kate, who also turned 42 recently, has been largely out of the public eye due to her ongoing cancer treatment.

Her last public appearance was on June 15 at Trooping the Colour, the annual celebration of King Charles‘ birthday.

Despite this, her participation in future royal engagements remains uncertain, as it depends on her health and the guidance of her medical team.

Interestingly, the concert also had another royal connection. Meghan Markle, Prince William’s sister-in-law, attended Swift’s concert during the singer’s August 2023 tour stop in Los Angeles, indicating a shared appreciation for the pop star within the royal family.

Taylor Swift, 34, was welcomed to London with a special performance by the royal guard. Earlier on June 21, the band played her hit song “Shake It Off” in front of Buckingham Palace, which was shared on social media with the caption, “Can’t stop, won’t stop groovin’.”

Prince William’s connection with Swift is not new. In 2013, he joined her on stage at a Centrepoint charity event at Kensington Palace.

The spontaneous moment, where they sang “Livin’ on a Prayer” with Jon Bon Jovi, was described by William’s aides as completely “off the cuff.”

Reflecting on the event years later on Apple Fitness+’s Time to Walk series, William recounted how Swift led him to the stage.

“Around about — it must be nearly 10 years ago now — I can’t believe I’m actually telling this story,” Prince William began.

“I went to a charity fundraising gala for Centrepoint, which is a young homeless charity that I am very fond of and have supported for many years.

It’s an annual fundraiser, and I turn up, and Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift are at the event, which nearly knocked me off my feet as well.”

William continued, “When I sat down to watch Jon Bon Jovi do his performance, I thought, ‘That’s it. My job is done. I’ll get a dinner in a minute, and I might be able to have a chat to some people, and, you know, I’m off-duty a little bit now.’

Little did I think what was going to happen next. I’m sat next to Taylor Swift. She’s on my left. And after Jon does his first song, there’s a pause and she turns to me.

She puts her hand on my arm, looks me in the eye, and says, ‘Come on, William. Let’s go and sing.'”

The Prince recalled how he was unexpectedly led to the stage. “To this day, I still do not know what came over me,” he said.

“Honestly, even now, I’m cringing at what happened next, and I don’t understand why I gave in. But, frankly, if Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm, and says, ‘Come with me…’ I got up like a puppy and went, ‘Yeah, okay, that seems like a great idea. I’ll follow you.'”

Prince William expressed his admiration for Swift again at the 2023 Tusk Conservation Awards. Speaking with rocker Ronnie Wood about The Rolling Stones, he mentioned his interest in attending one of their concerts if Swift was involved.

According to Hello! magazine, the royal’s exact words were, “We were talking about the tour and I said, ‘Come on, you’ve got to come out on tour,’ and we were talking about the new album and everything.”

Wood then reportedly told William that Swift had previously performed with his bandmate Mick Jagger, to which the Prince of Wales replied, “I’m there then.”

This latest concert outing adds another chapter to the long-standing connection between Prince William and Taylor Swift, marking a memorable birthday celebration for the royal and his children.
