In a candid revelation, actress and singer Reneé Rapp recently disclosed a traumatic incident she endured two years ago in Los Angeles, shedding light on the emotional aftermath and her journey toward healing.

The 24-year-old star, known for her role in Mean Girls and the series Sex Lives of College Girls, opened up about the harrowing experience in an exclusive cover story interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Rapp recounted waking up in a bathroom stall at The Beverly Hilton, disoriented and bloodied, after allegedly being drugged and assaulted.

The incident, which she described as “incredibly traumatic,” left her grappling with feelings of confusion and vulnerability. Despite the fog of memory surrounding the event, Rapp expressed a deep sense of unease and betrayal towards those she had considered friends at the time.

“I still feel like I’m sorting through those feelings,” Rapp confessed to the outlet. “I do understand that it was an incredibly traumatic experience that I don’t remember at all. And it feels weird to talk about because I don’t remember it.”

In a bold move toward self-preservation, Rapp revealed that she had severed ties with individuals she believed had abandoned her during her time of need, opting to unfollow them on social media platforms.

“I just recently started to be like, ‘Wait, the people that let this happen to me suck,’” she remarked.

The ordeal served as a catalyst for Rapp’s introspection and artistic expression. Her single “Snow Angel,” featured on her debut album, serves as a poignant reminder of the events that inspired it. The song’s lyrics reflect the turmoil and vulnerability Rapp experienced in the aftermath of the assault.

“I was like, ‘OK, well, when we do SNL, if I’m doing this [song], I am doing this,’” Rapp explained. “I will be on a red floor and I need to start laying down because that’s how I woke up. And there should be red underneath me and I should be in all white.”

Despite the gravity of the situation, Rapp’s resilience shines through as she navigates the complexities of trauma and recovery.

When questioned about confronting her former friends regarding the assault, Rapp recounted a conversation with a former romantic partner who had reached out to check on her well-being.

“I remember he was like, ‘Are you OK? What happened? I guess you went home. Hope you’re OK.’ I’m like, ‘I didn’t go home. Don’t be dumb,’” she recalled telling him.

In retrospect, Rapp acknowledged the toxic dynamics that had been present in her social circle, admitting that she had been aware of the negative influences but struggled to extricate herself due to personal challenges, including a difficult breakup and questioning her sexuality.

“I also think, in hindsight, I was really struggling with my sexuality and I was like, ‘OK, well, this boy is kind of giving me validation, and this is a straight group of people,’” Rapp shared.

As she continues to navigate her journey of healing and self-discovery, Rapp hopes to shed light on the importance of speaking out against sexual violence and supporting survivors.

Her bravery in sharing her story serves as a beacon of hope for others who may be grappling with similar experiences in silence.

Reneé Rapp’s courageous decision to share her story of assault underscores the resilience and strength of survivors. Through her music and advocacy, she seeks to empower others to break the silence surrounding sexual violence and stand in solidarity with those who have endured similar traumas.

As she forges ahead on her journey of healing, Rapp remains a shining example of resilience in the face of adversity.
