Rod Stewart has publicly distanced himself from U.S. President Donald Trump, saying the two are no longer friends.

In a June 17 interview with Radio Times, the British rock icon revealed that he used to be close with Trump — attending his Christmas parties and living nearby in Palm Beach, Florida — but their relationship changed after Trump became president.

“I’m not a great fan of Trump,” Stewart said, adding, “He didn’t treat women very well,” and, “Since he became president, he became another guy — somebody I didn’t know.”

Though Stewart once defended his friendship with Trump in 2015, he now strongly criticizes the president, particularly over U.S. arms sales to Israel amid the ongoing war in Gaza.

“As long as he’s selling arms to the Israelis — I can’t [consider him a friend],” Stewart said, calling the situation “annihilation” and comparing Israel’s actions under Prime Minister Netanyahu to historic persecution of Jews.

The comments place Stewart among a growing number of musicians condemning U.S. policy in the conflict. He concluded, “Someone’s gotta do something.”

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is preparing to perform at Glastonbury Festival later this month, alongside artists like The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo, and Neil Young.
