Disney fans are in for a treat as the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Snow White has finally been unveiled.

Premiering at the D23 Expo on August 9, the teaser offered a glimpse into the reimagined world of the beloved 1937 animated classic. The film is set to hit theaters on March 21, 2025.

The upcoming adaptation, directed by Marc Webb, stars West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler as Snow White, with Gal Gadot stepping into the role of the Evil Queen.

The project, which wrapped filming in July 2022, promises to bring a fresh take on the original story while retaining the charm and timeless appeal that has captivated audiences for decades.

Disney has teased the new film as an opportunity to “return to the story that started it all.” The announcement was accompanied by an evocative post on Instagram featuring a red apple emoji—a subtle nod to the iconic poisoned apple from the original tale.

In keeping with the tradition of the 1937 classic, the new movie will feature Snow White’s seven trusty companions: Dopey, Grumpy, Sneezy, Bashful, Happy, Sleepy, and Doc. However, fans can expect some new twists, as the film will reportedly expand upon the original story in ways that reflect modern sensibilities.

Adding to the excitement, the film’s soundtrack will include original songs crafted by the Oscar-winning and Tony-winning songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known for their work on La La Land and Dear Evan Hansen. The film’s production was helmed by Marc Platt, a prominent producer with a long history of successful projects.

Gal Gadot, widely recognized for her portrayal of Wonder Woman, has expressed her enthusiasm for taking on the role of the Evil Queen. In a 2022 interview with PEOPLE at the D23 Expo, Gadot shared her approach to the character, emphasizing her desire to bring depth and nuance to the traditionally one-dimensional villain.

“I wanted to make sure that we keep her delightful and delicious, and we understand what makes her tick. Then the evilness is interesting and not just flat,” Gadot explained.

She elaborated on the complexity of the character, describing the relationship between Snow White and the Evil Queen as a twisted version of a mother-daughter dynamic. “It’s what happens to a woman when she feels like she’s not relevant anymore, what can come out of her,” Gadot added.

Gadot also spoke fondly of her experience working alongside Rachel Zegler, highlighting the camaraderie that developed on set. “At the end of the day, neither of us is the type of actor that, when it’s cut, we just go to our trailers and we wait for our turns again,” she said.

“We all stayed and it was just a wonderful, commune type of atmosphere on set. When you have this good chemistry between everybody, it really shows onscreen.”

As the March 2025 release date approaches, excitement continues to build for Disney’s latest live-action endeavor. With a talented cast, fresh storytelling, and the promise of new musical numbers, this Snow White adaptation is poised to be a cinematic event that honors its roots while offering something new for a contemporary audience. Fans will have to wait a little longer to see how this classic tale is brought to life once again on the big screen.
