Sony Music and Music Women* Germany announce winners of the 2024 Female* Producer Prize
Sony Music Germany and Music Women* Germany have announced the winners of the third annual Female* Producer Prize, which celebrates women and non-binary people in music production. This year, more than 250 people applied for the prize, 50% more than last year.
The 2024 awards introduced two categories: “Producer” and “Self-Producing Artist.” This change helps to recognize the different skills needed for music producers and artists who make their own music. Ten winners were chosen, with six in the “Self-Producing Artist” group and four in the “Producer” group.
Self-Producing Artist Winners
Six artists were picked in this category, which honors musicians who produce their own songs:
1. Joules the Fox – A singer, musician, and producer who has performed more than 200 concerts across Europe and Canada. She makes folk, pop, indie, and neo-classical music.
2. KUOKO – A pop artist whose songs talk about life in a digital world and being part of the FLINTA* community. She has released two self-produced albums and her music has been streamed millions of times. FLINTA* stands for women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans, and agender people.
3. lùisa – She creates folk rock and indie pop music with dreamy, retro influences. Her album New Woman has gained her recognition worldwide.
4. Melane – Known for mixing different genres like Afro, rumba, and pop, she will release her debut solo album Mirrors & Windows in 2024.
5. Philo Tsoungui – An artist with Cameroonian roots, Philo blends classical percussion with electronic dance music (EDM) and experimental music.
6. Sera Kalo – A genre-blending artist from the Caribbean and America who has worked on more than 23 albums in Germany and Asia. Her debut album eXante was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award in 2023.
Producer Winners
The “Producer” category honored four winners:
1. Lisa Kida – A producer with Kosovan roots who mixes different genres like pop, reggaeton, dancehall, and hip-hop.
2. Mia Diekow – A producer and singer-songwriter since 2007. She makes music that combines pop, indie, folk, and electronic styles, and she also speaks out about post-infectious diseases.
3. Perera Elsewhere – An award-winning producer and multi-instrumentalist who creates experimental pop music with deep beats and thoughtful themes.
4. YUKI – A producer known for combining modern sounds with emotional, personal details. She is influenced by hyperpop, electronic, dance, and trap music.
What They Win
The winners will get personal coaching, prize packages, and the chance to attend masterclasses at Sony Music Germany’s Circle Studios in Berlin. They will also be added to Sony Music Germany’s artist roster, which could open the door to future collaborations with other artists and music labels.
Special Ceremony
An award ceremony to honor the winners will be held on October 29, 2024, at Fotografiska Berlin.
The Female* Producer Prize uses an asterisk (*) after the word “Female*” to include all people who identify as female and non-binary. This prize, supported by Sony Music and other sponsors, aims to make the music industry more inclusive and give women and non-binary individuals more recognition and opportunities in music production.
