Junior Edwards, an original cast member of History Channel’s reality series Swamp People, has died. The announcement came from his grandson and co-star “Little” Willie Edwards on Facebook on July 26, 2025.

Willie shared an emotional tribute: “Rest easy pawpaw… I know you’re probably running your hoop nets… you will be extremely missed pawpaw … we love you more than anything!!! Until we meet again”  .

No exact date or cause of death has been disclosed. However, earlier in July, Little Willie revealed that Junior had been battling serious health issues and had asked fans to keep him in their thoughts and prayers: “we need a miracle”.

Edwards was a fixture on Swamp People from its debut in 2010 through Season 6 in 2015 and returned for Season 12 in 2021, appearing in approximately 100 episodes across his tenure. His extended family—including his son Willie and grandson “Little” Willie—also featured prominently on the show.

His passing prompted heartfelt tributes from fellow cast members and fans. Ashley “Deadeye” Jones remembered him on Instagram as “one of the greatest alligator hunters there is” and “a real hardcore outdoorsman,” recalling filming moments like catching “MONSTER gators” in Pierre Part, Louisiana.

Ronnie Adams added on social media: “Praying for the Edwards in this time of need!!! Rest in peace Junior!!!”.

Swamp People has aired for 15 seasons over 14 years as of mid‑2025 and focuses on families in Louisiana’s Atchafalaya River Basin making their living through alligator hunting. Edwards’ legacy spanned years of commitment to swamp life and family tradition, making him a beloved figure among viewers .

Though definitive details around his death remain undisclosed, fans and colleagues alike are honoring the memory of a legendary outdoorsman and dedicated family man.
