Taylor Sheridan, the creative force behind Yellowstone and its sprawling television universe, is reportedly on the verge of signing a lucrative long-term production deal with NBCUniversal.

According to Puck, the acclaimed writer-director is being courted by NBCUniversal’s entertainment chief, Donna Langley, in what insiders are calling a “megabucks” agreement that could reshape the future of high-end TV drama production.

The deal, which would take effect in about three years, is expected to follow the conclusion of Sheridan’s decade-long tenure with Paramount Television. During that period, he built one of the most successful creative franchises in modern television history.

Sheridan’s partnership with Paramount launched Yellowstone into a cultural phenomenon, spawning hit spinoffs such as 1883, 1923, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

Beyond that universe, he has also delivered successful originals including Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Special Ops: Lioness, and Landman.

Neither NBCUniversal nor Paramount has commented on the ongoing negotiations, and Sheridan’s representatives at CAA have declined to confirm details. Still, the move comes as little surprise within Hollywood circles, as Sheridan has been quietly exploring new opportunities and broader creative control beyond his existing Paramount deal.

Known for his cinematic storytelling and fast-paced production process, Sheridan has become one of the industry’s most prolific and hands-on creators. He maintains a deeply personal involvement in all his projects — from scriptwriting and casting to on-location direction.

He’s even invested in two large ranches in Texas, which double as key filming sites for several of his series, including Yellowstone and 1883.

Sheridan’s potential jump to NBCUniversal marks more than a simple studio switch — it signals a shift in the competitive landscape of television production. NBCUniversal, which has been seeking to bolster its portfolio of prestige programming across platforms like Peacock, could leverage Sheridan’s proven storytelling formula to rival major players like Netflix and Amazon.

If finalized, the pact would position Sheridan among the top-tier Hollywood creators commanding multi-million-dollar deals, joining the ranks of Ryan Murphy and Shonda Rhimes.

For NBCUniversal, securing Sheridan would not only represent a major creative win but also signal a renewed commitment to character-driven, cinematic television storytelling.
