The debut season of The Valley concluded on Tuesday, June 4, marking the end of not just the show, but also four marriages among its cast.

Among them were Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor, who navigated the final touches of their sports bar, Jax’s Studio City, as their relationship unraveled.

Brittany, 35, organized a surprise visit from Jax’s sister to celebrate the bar’s opening, hoping the gesture might mitigate recent tensions. Despite her efforts, the Kentucky native expressed frustration over Jax’s behavior.

“It can be frustrating, and I feel like you don’t listen to me sometimes,” Brittany confided in Jax, 44. “I feel like you’re not even attracted to me sometimes.”

Jax attributed his recent outbursts to stress. However, Brittany was notably upset by their delayed plans to try for a second child.

“It kind of hurts my feelings that whenever it came time for our schedule to try to start trying for the baby this month, you were just so against it,” she said, to which Jax replied he felt “overwhelmed.”

In a heartfelt conversation, Brittany questioned their readiness to bring another child into their strained relationship. “As much as I want to have a kid, even I don’t know how me and you can bring another baby into this world if we don’t fix these things in our relationship,” she said. “Because I don’t want this for our future.”

Jax viewed the successful opening of their bar as a triumph. “I think we beat the odds when it goes to opening a bar with a partner or a significant other, husband, wife, whatever,” he reflected in a confessional. “And right now, the future’s looking pretty bright.”

However, a flash-forward six months to March revealed a different reality. Weeks after Brittany moved out with their 3-year-old son, Cruz, the couple confirmed their separation. Jax, visibly emotional, admitted, “I never thought I would be in the position I’m in right now.”

Brittany’s move came after escalating conflicts. She recounted an incident where Jax’s return from a night out led to a confrontation. “He was like going out to the bar and stuff, coming home and having these horrible hangovers that would make him mean as a f—ing snake,” she shared.

“I’m asleep, next morning I wake up to Jax barreling in. Me and Cruz are in my bed together by the way, he comes in, ‘Why is Luke texting me right now asking me if he needs someone to talk to because of everything that I’m going through?’ Finally, after he’s already been screaming at me for hours.”

During their final on-camera discussion at their house, Jax informed Brittany about a therapy appointment he had made, something she had long encouraged.

However, Brittany was skeptical, believing it to be a performative gesture for the cameras. “This is all a front,” she remarked. “This is what he wants everyone to see and believe that he’s actually going to do these things to change.”

Jax admitted he didn’t attend the therapy session due to its distance. He expressed a desire to reconcile but acknowledged the benefits of their time apart. “I do want you back, but you know what? You decided to leave me, which was hard for me in the beginning.

But as the times been going on, this has been nice,” he said. Brittany agreed, calling their separation “amazing” but doubted Jax’s sincerity. “As soon as the cameras drop, you’re going to text me a million text messages and talk horrible,” she predicted.

In her confessional, Brittany reflected on her newfound strength and clarity. “I just feel like I have woken up,” she said. “I know my worth and I know I do not deserve to be in a relationship like this. What was I thinking staying with him this long?”

Despite the turmoil, the couple agreed to avoid fighting in front of Cruz. “It’s been an amazing nine years,” Jax said. “It really, really has. I have no regrets. I love Brittany, I do. I love my wife. The only thing that’s going to make or break this is time.”

Since the filming concluded, Jax was seen having lunch with model Paige Woolen. He clarified their status on the May 31 episode of When Reality Hits with Jax and Brittany podcast.

“I am not — I repeat not — dating anybody,” he stated, emphasizing their separation. The couple has discussed the possibility of dating others, attempting to exhaust all options before considering divorce.
