Toss a coin — because Geralt of Rivia is officially back, and this time he’s got a new face. Netflix has dropped the first look at The Witcher Season 4, confirming that Liam Hemsworth is taking over the lead role from Henry Cavill.

The eight-episode season premieres October 30.

Fans will remember that Cavill, who played the monster-hunting White Wolf for the first three seasons, announced in October 2022 that he was leaving the series.

On Instagram, he passed the torch to Hemsworth, writing, “In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf.” Cavill’s final bow came in Season 3, which was split into two parts and released last summer.

Now, Hemsworth is stepping into the iconic silver wig and armor. The teaser trailer shows his Geralt taking down a ghostly wraith — and yes, he looks strikingly similar to Cavill’s version. But this season isn’t just about the recasting; it’s about the story.

According to Netflix’s logline, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri are scattered by a raging war, forced onto separate paths full of enemies and unlikely allies. Their challenge? Surviving long enough to reunite.

The returning cast is stacked, with Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Freya Allan (Ciri), and Joey Batey (Jaskier) back in action. They’re joined by heavy-hitters like Laurence Fishburne as Regis, along with Eamon Farren, Anna Shaffer, Graham McTavish, Sharlto Copley, and more — making this one of the series’ most ambitious ensembles yet.

Behind the scenes, creator and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich confirmed that Season 4 kicks off the beginning of the end. Both Season 4 and Season 5 were filmed back-to-back, adapting the final three novels in Andrzej Sapkowski’s saga: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake.

“This is the beginning of a two-season journey for our family to finally reunite and be together — hopefully forever,” Hissrich teased.

So whether you’re nervous about the recast or ready to embrace a new White Wolf, October will be the true test. Can Hemsworth win over The Witcher’s fiercely loyal fanbase? Only time — and a few monsters — will tell.
