Craving LA’s famous street food? Let’s make bacon-wrapped hot dogs at home!
Bacon-wrapped hot dogs, aka ‘Danger Dogs,’ are a Los Angeles staple, loaded with onions, peppers, and condiments. Ready to grill? Let’s go!
- 8 hot dogs (beef or your favorite) - 8 slices thin-cut bacon - 1 large yellow onion, sliced - 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 jalapeño, sliced (optional for heat) - 8 hot dog buns (brioche recommended) - Ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise - Toothpicks & oil
Score hot dogs with shallow slits. Wrap each with a bacon slice in a spiral. Secure with toothpicks at both ends.
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a skillet over medium. Sauté onions, bell peppers, and jalapeños until caramelized, about 10-12 minutes. Set aside.
Grill: Cook over medium heat (350°F), turning occasionally, for 8-10 min. Oven: Bake at 400°F on a rack for 30 min until bacon is crisp.
Lightly toast buns on the grill or in bacon grease for extra flavor. Pro tip: Use brioche buns for a rich touch!
Spread mayo on buns, add bacon-wrapped hot dog, top with sautéed veggies, ketchup, mustard, and optional pineapple or hot sauce.
Serve with potato chips or coleslaw. Enjoy your homemade LA street dogs! Share your pics with social media.
