Lizzo's attempt to dismiss a sexual harassment lawsuit against her has been denied by a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge.
The lawsuit was filed by three of Lizzo's former background dancers – Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez.
Allegations include abuse, harassment, discrimination, workplace violations, and various misconduct while working for Lizzo and her company, Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc.
Los Angeles attorney Ron Zambrano is representing the three women, expressing satisfaction with the judge's ruling.
Some allegations were dismissed, including fat-shaming, a nude photoshoot, and dancers being forced to be on "hold" while not on tour.
Claims of sexual, religious, and racial discrimination, sexual harassment, demeaning visits to Bananenbar in Amsterdam and Crazy Horse in Paris, false imprisonment, and assault remain.
The judge's ruling emphasizes that celebrities, including Lizzo, are not immune from reprehensible conduct.
Lizzo's spokesman, Stefan Friedman, stated they are pleased that some causes of action were thrown out and plan to appeal the remaining elements.
Lizzo had previously attempted to dismiss the lawsuit using California’s anti-SLAPP statute, associated with lawsuits threatening free speech.
The court document mentions Amsterdam’s Red Light District, specifically the Bananenbar, where Lizzo allegedly insisted her team join her at the venue with nude dancers.
The plaintiffs had spoken out about Lizzo's alleged insistence on her touring team attending the Bananenbar.
Lizzo and her dance captain, Shirlene Quigley, will still face allegations of sexual harassment, racial and religious discrimination, and accusations of forced participation in prayer circles.
Two of the dancers, Davis and Williams, began working with Lizzo in 2021 for the Amazon reality show, "Watch Out for the Big Grrrls."
Rodriguez was hired in 2021 after performing in the video for Lizzo's hit "Rumors" but resigned in 2022.
