Chris Noth is pushing back against renewed speculation about his relationship with Sarah Jessica Parker after a single-word Instagram reply reignited old controversy.

The actor, 70, addressed the situation on Wednesday after social media users and headlines interpreted his comment as support for a fan’s insult aimed at his former Sex and the City co-star. Noth said the reaction has been blown out of proportion.

“My off-the-cuff slightly sarcastic response to a comment on the internet seems to have caused a tempest in a teapot,” he wrote on Instagram. “It is not news. It is not worth all this discussion.”

The moment traces back to Jan. 9, when Noth shared a gym selfie captioned, “F— new years – LET’S GO!!!!” A follower commented, “You mean f— sjp & her award right? lol,” referencing Parker’s recent honor at the Golden Globe Awards, where she received the Carol Burnett Award. Noth replied with a simple, “Right.”

That brief exchange quickly fueled online chatter about a rumored feud between the former co-stars, especially given the fallout from allegations made against Noth in late 2021.

In December of that year, two women accused Noth of sexual assault in incidents they said occurred in 2004 and 2015. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter under pseudonyms, both women described separate alleged encounters. Noth denied the claims, calling them “categorically false.”

Following the allegations, Noth was removed from CBS’ The Equalizer and written out of HBO’s And Just Like That, the sequel series to Sex and the City.

Shortly after the news broke, Parker, along with co-stars Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, released a joint statement expressing support for the women who came forward.

Noth’s latest post appears aimed at shutting down renewed debate, as he emphasized that the attention surrounding his comment distracts from “more important things to worry about.”

For now, the actor seems eager to step away from social media drama — even as public interest remains firmly attached.
