Fifteen years after the finale, Miley Cyrus steps back into the spotlight as Hannah Montana for a nostalgic Disney+ special marking the show’s 20th anniversary.

Nearly two decades after the blonde wig first became a pop culture symbol, Miley Cyrus is stepping back into a role that launched a generation of Disney stardom.
A newly released trailer from Disney reveals that Cyrus will perform as Hannah Montana again for the first time in 15 years as part of the upcoming “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special,” debuting March 24 on Disney+.
The date marks exactly 20 years since the sitcom first premiered on Disney Channel.
The special takes a reflective approach rather than simply revisiting the past. Filmed in front of a live studio audience, the event blends interviews, archival footage and recreated set pieces from the original series.
Cyrus sits down for a candid conversation with Alex Cooper, host of the hit podcast Call Her Daddy, to revisit the cultural impact of the show and the unusual experience of growing up as both Miley Stewart and her fictional pop-star alter ego.
Disney says fans can expect never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage along with recreated moments from the Malibu-based series.
The trailer also teases the return of familiar songs — subtle nods to the chart-topping Disney pop era that helped define late-2000s youth culture.
When “Hannah Montana” debuted in 2006, it quickly became one of Disney Channel’s biggest hits. The series followed teenager Miley Stewart, who lived a double life as a normal high school student by day and a famous singer by night.
The concept struck a chord with young audiences and ran for four seasons until 2011, earning four Emmy nominations for outstanding children’s program.
The show also expanded into a broader franchise. 2009’s Hannah Montana: The Movie brought the story to theaters at the height of the show’s popularity.
Much of the original ensemble helped shape the series’ appeal. Emily Osment played best friend Lilly Truscott, while Mitchel Musso portrayed Oliver Oken. Cyrus’ real-life father, Billy Ray Cyrus, appeared as Robby Ray Stewart, and Jason Earles played older brother Jackson.
Moisés Arias rounded out the cast as Rico, the ambitious surf shop manager.
The series also attracted a parade of guest stars during its run, including Dolly Parton, Selena Gomez, Jonas Brothers and Dwayne Johnson.
For Cyrus — who has since built a Grammy-winning career far removed from Disney Channel — the anniversary special signals a rare return to the character that started it all, reminding fans that sometimes the “best of both worlds” still resonates years later.
