Jonah Hill recently spoke on The Zane Lowe Show and called out an old Kanye West Instagram post as “bizarre.”

That post was from 2023, when Ye wrote that watching Hill’s performance in the 2012 comedy movie 21 Jump Street made him “like Jewish people again.”

Hill said the whole thing felt off to him. He said it felt like Ye was trying to smooth things over. He also shared that he still cares about Ye and just wants everyone — including Ye — to come out okay on the other side.

At the same time, Hill praised Ye’s artistry. He called him “the greatest artist to ever live,” while being real about how damaging Ye’s antisemitic comments have been. Hill didn’t sugarcoat it — he said that kind of hate speech is hard to hear, full stop. He admitted he doesn’t totally get what’s going on, but doesn’t want to kick someone while they’re already down.

Ye has been involved in controversies for years. In late 2022, he went on an antisemitic rant across social media and also appeared on Alex Jones’ show “InfoWars,” and people were furious. However, in March 2023, he shared a poster of “21 Jump Street” and wrote that beef with a couple of people shouldn’t turn into hatred toward millions.

More recently, Ye faced backlash again for selling swastika-themed T-shirts on his website and releasing a song titled “Heil Hitler.” After the backlash, he took out a full-page ad in The Wall Street Journal at the end of January.

He said he was sorry, owned his actions, and pledged to do better — and made clear he’s not a Nazi or antisemite — said he loves Jewish people.
