Kerry Condon has been cast in Netflix‘s upcoming drama series The God of the Woods. She will star alongside Maya Hawke in the lead role. The project is based on Liz Moore’s 2024 novel of the same name, which is already getting buzz for its gripping story.
According to the official logline, “The God of the Woods” is a multi-generational drama set in the Adirondacks. The story revolves around the Van Laar family, exploring their buried secrets, class tensions, and a mysterious incident. This incident centers on the sudden disappearance of 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar from her family’s summer camp. The disappearance occurs in the aftermath of an earlier family tragedy, raising suspicions that the two events may be connected.
As the story goes on, the past and present begin to collide. Alongside this, the Van Laar family’s wealth and influence gradually begin to unravel. In the process, the damaging consequences of privilege and the abuse of power are revealed.
In the series, Kerry Condon plays Alice Van Laar, Barbara’s mother. Her character is portrayed as a woman hardened by the grief of a past family tragedy and trapped in a contemptuous marriage. This role grounds the whole thing emotionally.
Meanwhile, Maya Hawke plays Judy Luptack, a character described as sharp and low-key relentless. She is assigned to investigate Barbara’s case. Notably, she is the first female investigator in the male-dominated Bureau of Criminal Investigation — so yeah, she’s got a lot to prove in a room full of men.
Speaking of Kerry Condon’s career, she has appeared in movies such as The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), Train Dreams (2025), and F1 (2025). Up next, she will be seen in the movie Pressure alongside Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott, which is set to release on May 29.
