The beloved LGBTQ+ series bows out with a feature film, landing on the streamer this summer.

Netflix has announced that its breakout hit Heartstopper will conclude with a feature film. Titled Heartstopper Forever, the movie is set to debut on the streamer on July 17.
The announcement carries significant weight for a fanbase that has long regarded the series as a landmark in LGBTQ+ youth representation on mainstream streaming platforms.
Kit Connor and Joe Locke return as Nick and Charlie, picking up directly from the Season 3 finale as the couple navigates the threshold of adulthood. With Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie growing increasingly confident at school, the film centers on a question familiar to young couples everywhere: can their relationship survive going long-distance?
Beyond their on-screen roles, Connor and Locke will also serve as executive producers on the project — a notable creative elevation for the lead actors of any major streaming series. The film is directed by Wash Westmoreland.
Alice Oseman, who authored the original graphic novel series on which the show is based, addressed the format shift directly. She acknowledged that fans may be “a little apprehensive” about a film running considerably shorter than a full season — a concern she admitted to sharing initially.
“On a basic level, of course, I want the movie to be a beautiful and emotional send-off for the ‘Heartstopper’ story — celebrating what ‘Heartstopper’ means to people, while offering a chance to say goodbye to our beloved characters, and many hints of what’s to come in the characters’ future lives,” Oseman said.
She added that the movie format frees the production from the structural demands of episodic television. “With no need for end-of-episode cliffhangers or a new twist every episode, every part of ‘Heartstopper’ can be elevated to a higher quality to create something memorable, sophisticated, and atmospheric,” she said.
Heartstopper Forever premieres July 17 on Netflix.
