Charli xcx‘s widely anticipated tour mockumentary The Moment is set to make its exclusive U.S. streaming debut on HBO Max on Friday, May 29, with a linear HBO broadcast to follow the next day, May 30, at 8 p.m. ET. The release further cements the growing distribution relationship between A24 and HBO.

Directed by Aidan Zamiri, The Moment stars Charli xcx as a fictionalized version of herself — a rising pop star navigating the pressures of fame and the complexities of the music industry as she prepares for her arena tour debut.

The screenplay was penned by Zamiri and Bertie Brandes, working from an original story by Charli xcx herself. The three-time Grammy winner also served as a producer alongside David Hinojosa.

Notably, Charli xcx maintained an exceptional degree of creative control over the project — simultaneously taking on writing, acting, and producing responsibilities, a level of authorship rare even among the most commercially powerful artists in the industry today.

The film boasts an A-list ensemble cast that includes Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou, Arielle Dombasle, Hailey Benton Gates, Kylie Jenner, Trew Mullen, Mel Ottenberg, Isaac Powell, Rachel Sennott, Rish Shah, Alexander Skarsgård, and Michael Workéyè.

Jenner’s appearance is particularly noteworthy, given her well-documented pop culture connection to Charli xcx during the cultural moment surrounding the artist’s landmark 2024 album Brat.

A24 world-premiered The Moment at this year’s Sundance Film Festival before releasing the film theatrically on January 30. The film’s journey from Sundance buzz to HBO Max’s broad streaming audience is a textbook example of A24’s increasingly refined multi-window content strategy — maximizing both critical prestige and mass viewership.
