In a recent episode of Saturday Night Live, Charles Barkley made his opinions heard. After getting real about immigrants during a segment covering March Madness, this week’s cold open had him sounding off on other issues too.
In the sketch, Kenan Thompson played Barkley and moved away from college basketball to weigh in on current topics, including the US getting involved in Iran and the Artemis II Moon Mission. On Iran, he said war is terrible, innocent people die, and someone needs to stop it.
On the Artemis II mission, he called it a waste of money and said they’re not even going to the moon — just flying around it.
Then things shifted to President Donald Trump firing Attorney General Pam Bondi. Ashley Padilla played the role, saying she was great at her job and made history as the first woman ever fired as attorney general. She said she already misses the job and that her headshot got tossed in the trash.
During the March 29 broadcast, Barkley didn’t hold back on the immigrant issue. This came up during a segment featuring student athlete Alex Karaban, whose parents had immigrated to the United States.
Barkley said the topic hits close to home for him. He said he has a soft spot for the athlete and his family, but that the way some other immigrants are being treated in this country is sad and disgraceful.
He added that there’s a difference between good immigrants and criminal immigrants — and what’s happening to the good ones is really sad.
