“Jumanji 3” begins filming as Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black reunite; Johnson honors Robin Williams with original 1995 dice.

Production on Jumanji 3 is officially underway, and the franchise’s core cast — Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black — has reunited for what promises to be the biggest installment yet.
The first look from set was released on Instagram Wednesday, showing the stars back in costume and ready to dive into the next adventure. The post was captioned, “Look who’s on the loose,” signaling the return of the beloved ensemble.
Kevin Hart also shared the photo with his own message of excitement, writing, “Back in action and loving it… I missed you Jumanji … This one will be our biggest!” The film marks the latest chapter in Sony’s wildly successful reboot series, which began with 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and continued with 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level.
Director Jake Kasdan, who helmed both previous films, returns once again and co-wrote the script with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. The untitled threequel is set to hit theaters on December 11, 2026.
A day before the cast photo dropped, Johnson posted a behind-the-scenes video from the Universal Studios backlot in Los Angeles, where he surprised fans en route to his first day on set.
The actor expressed how meaningful it felt to film in L.A. again after years away, calling it “a little day one of Jumanji excitement.”
Johnson also revealed a sentimental detail about his character’s costume: he will wear the same dice used in the original 1995 Jumanji, starring Robin Williams. Johnson explained the choice as a tribute to Williams and the legacy he left behind.
“This is the dice from the original Jumanji… as a show of respect and a way of honoring Robin and this entire franchise that he started as we film our very last Jumanji,” he said.
The returning ensemble cast also includes Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Lamorne Morris and Danny DeVito. Johnson recently shared footage from the cast’s table read, celebrating the reunion and noting that the group spent much of the day laughing together.
With its blend of humor, heart and blockbuster action, Jumanji 3 looks ready to continue — and possibly conclude — one of Sony’s most successful modern franchises.
