Milo Ventimiglia says becoming a dad changed his heart — and his acting — as he and Jarah Mariano expect baby No. 2.

For Milo Ventimiglia, life lately has been about contrast — heartbreak and hope, loss and love — all unfolding at once.
The This Is Us alum, 48, is preparing to welcome his second child with wife Jarah Mariano, and he says fatherhood has reshaped him in ways he never expected.
Speaking about the emotional shift that came with becoming a dad, Ventimiglia shared that the experience has deepened his understanding of feelings — not just at home, but on set as well.
He and Mariano welcomed their daughter, Ke’ala Coral, in January 2025. Her arrival came just weeks after the couple lost their Los Angeles home in devastating wildfires.
The timing created what Ventimiglia describes as two extremes colliding — deep sadness over loss and overwhelming joy at becoming parents.
“It’s heartbreak with absolute joy,” he reflected.
That emotional whiplash, he admits, naturally found its way into his work. In his new film, I Can Only Imagine 2, Ventimiglia plays Christian singer-songwriter Tim Timmons, a man living with terminal cancer.
Drawing from his own real-life experiences, he says it would have been impossible not to channel those raw feelings into the performance.
Fatherhood, he explains, has opened what feels like an endless well of emotion. The vulnerability that comes with loving a child — the fear, the protection, the awe — has expanded his emotional range both personally and professionally.
Meanwhile, Mariano recently announced the couple’s second pregnancy while celebrating Ke’ala’s first birthday. Sharing a beach photo from Hawaii, she wrote about the fierce, life-changing love she feels as a mother — the kind that makes you want to both protect your child and live as long as possible for them.
Despite the challenges of the past year, the couple has remained focused on gratitude. They lost their house, but not their sense of family.
As Ventimiglia steps into this next chapter — baby No. 2 on the way and I Can Only Imagine 2 now in theaters — it’s clear that fatherhood isn’t just changing his life.
It’s redefining the way he feels, loves and performs.
