After years away from Bravo, Nene Leakes is stepping back into the spotlight, joining “Ultimate Road Trip” as the franchise marks 20 years.

Nene Leakes is officially reclaiming her place in the Bravo universe — and for longtime Real Housewives fans, it feels like a full-circle moment.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta legend announced she will return to the network as part of The Real Housewives: Ultimate Road Trip, a special spinoff created to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary.
Rather than a full-time comeback to RHOA, Leakes’ return is rooted in reflection, nostalgia, and honoring the legacy she helped build.
“This has been a really long, long journey,” Leakes shared in an emotional Instagram video. Clearly overwhelmed, she added that she never imagined she’d be saying these words — but she’s “happy” and “overjoyed” to be back.
Leakes left RHOA in 2020 after Season 12 following a public contract dispute. Her exit later became more complicated when she filed a lawsuit against Bravo, accusing the network of fostering a toxic work environment — a case she ultimately dropped.
While the relationship appeared strained for years, Leakes softened her stance in 2023, saying she had no hard feelings toward executive producer Andy Cohen and was open to returning.
That openness now seems mutual. Cohen commented on Leakes’ announcement with a message that instantly grabbed fans’ attention: “Couldn’t celebrate 20 years without you.”
Ultimate Road Trip is designed as a tribute rather than a typical Housewives season. The series will follow iconic Housewives as they travel through key locations tied to the franchise’s history — starting in Orange County, where it all began, and ending with a major East Coast finale.
Along the way, familiar faces from different cities will pop up to celebrate the past, reflect on growth, and stir up the kind of humor and emotion fans expect.
Leakes is expected to appear during the Atlanta portion of the journey — a fitting stop for one of the most recognizable Housewives of all time.
For fans, her return isn’t just about drama or catchphrases. It’s about acknowledgment. Love her or hate her, Nene Leakes helped shape The Real Housewives.
And now, as Bravo looks back on two decades, one thing is clear: the celebration wouldn’t feel complete without her.
