The biggest names in Hollywood will wake up to life-changing news Thursday morning when the nominees for the 98th Academy Awards are announced. For movie fans, it’s the official start of Oscar season — coffee required.
The early reveal begins at 5:30 a.m. PT, with Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman reading the nominations live. Viewers can stream the announcement on Oscar.com and Oscars.org, or watch across the Academy’s social platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
Traditional TV fans can tune into Good Morning America on ABC, while cord-cutters can follow along on ABC News Live through Disney+ and Hulu.
This year’s nominations arrive with extra buzz. Awards watchers are bracing for one of the most competitive best picture races in recent memory.
According to Variety senior awards editor Clayton Davis, the 10 likely contenders include Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sinners and Train Dreams.
Two films in particular — Ryan Coogler’s Sinners and Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another — could dominate the morning. There’s even early chatter that one of them might challenge the long-standing record of 14 nominations, a feat only achieved by All About Eve, Titanic and La La Land.
The acting races are just as packed. Predicted best actor nominees include Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, Michael B. Jordan and Wagner Moura, while the best actress field is expected to feature Jessie Buckley, Rose Byrne, Chase Infiniti, Renate Reinsve and Emma Stone.
This year also brings a milestone for the Academy. A new best casting category debuts, expanding the Oscars to 24 total awards, while best picture remains capped at 10 nominees.
Looking ahead, Conan O’Brien returns as host after his well-received 2025 debut. The 98th Academy Awards will air March 15 from the Dolby Theatre on ABC, with streaming available on Hulu.
