Reshona Landfair Reclaims Her Voice After R. Kelly Abuse: “I Am More Than That Tape”

Once known only as a Jane Doe in a shocking scandal, Reshona Landfair is stepping forward to tell her story — on her own terms.

For years, Reshona Landfair lived in the shadow of a crime that made headlines around the world.

Identified publicly as the 14-year-old girl seen in the infamous 2001 sex tape involving R. Kelly, she says the experience shaped her life in ways few could understand.

Now an adult and a mother, Landfair is choosing to take back control of her story.

In a recent appearance on TMZ Live, she spoke candidly about the long-term impact of the abuse and the public scrutiny that followed.

For years, jokes and media coverage about the so-called “pee tape” left her feeling exposed and misunderstood. “It felt impossible to escape,” she shared, describing how the narrative surrounding the scandal rarely reflected her truth.

Landfair has now written a memoir, Who’s Watching Shorty?: Reclaiming Myself from the Shame of R. Kelly’s Abuse, in which she publicly reveals herself as the once-anonymous Jane Doe. She says she made that decision because she was tired of hiding and wanted to own her narrative.

Writing the book, she explained, became a way to heal.

Her biggest motivation today is her young son. Landfair knows difficult conversations may come one day. Rather than letting him discover the story through headlines or rumors, she wants him to hear it from her — honestly and directly.

She credits therapy, accountability, and personal reflection with helping her move forward. While she acknowledges the trauma will always be part of her past, she refuses to let it define her future.

More than two decades after the tape first surfaced, Landfair says her focus is simple: reclaiming her identity and reminding the world — and herself — that she is far more than a headline.
