Sophie Turner takes on her most action-packed role yet as Lara Croft, with Prime Video officially kicking off filming on its “Tomb Raider” reboot.
Sophie Turner is entering a bold new chapter of her career. Prime Video has revealed the first look at the actor as Lara Croft, marking the start of production on its highly anticipated live-action Tomb Raider series.
Best known for her dramatic turns in Game of Thrones and Dark Phoenix, Turner now takes on one of gaming’s most famous heroes. Lara Croft, the fearless archaeologist and adventurer, has been a pop culture icon since her video game debut in 1996.
Turner becomes the latest star to portray the character on screen, following Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
The upcoming series promises a fresh take on the legendary franchise while honoring its long legacy. Developed by Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, the show was officially greenlit in May 2024, with Turner’s casting confirmed later that year.
Behind the scenes, the creative team is just as star-powered. Phoebe Waller-Bridge leads the project as creator, writer, and executive producer, bringing her signature wit and depth to the action-heavy world of Tomb Raider.
She also serves as co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge. Jonathan van Tulleken directs and executive produces the series.
The ensemble cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein, adding gravitas and intrigue to the reboot.
The series arrives at a time of renewed excitement for the franchise. Several classic Tomb Raider games have been remastered, and two new titles—Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst—are planned for release in 2026 and 2027.
