New Star Wars animated series “Maul – Shadow Lord” features Darth Maul, voiced by Sam Witwer, premiering on Disney+ in 2026.

At this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Lucasfilm thrilled fans with a major reveal: a new animated series, Maul – Shadow Lord, is headed to Disney+ in 2026.
The show will spotlight the legendary Sith villain Darth Maul, with Sam Witwer stepping back into the role as the character’s voice. Witwer, a fan-favorite, previously lent his talents to Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Solo: A Star Wars Story.
The announcement dropped during a panel celebrating two decades of Lucasfilm Animation, hosted by Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni and VP of Animation Athena Portillo.
Attendees were treated to a sneak peek of the series, sparking an electric reaction from the crowd. Portillo teased that Maul – Shadow Lord will take a deep dive into the crimson-hued antagonist, assuring fans they’ll uncover “a lot” about his story.
The series bolsters Disney+’s ever-growing Star Wars lineup, joining acclaimed animated titles like Tales of the Jedi and Tales of the Empire, alongside live-action heavyweights such as Andor and The Mandalorian.
With Witwer’s return and the promise of a richer look at one of the galaxy’s most enigmatic villains, Maul – Shadow Lord is shaping up to be a standout addition when it premieres in 2026.
