Sturgill Simpson is taking his “Johnny Blue Skies” alias on the road this fall — and the “Mutiny for the Masses Tour” has no openers. Just him.

Sturgill Simpson is hitting the road — and he’s doing it under his alter ego “Johnny Blue Skies.” The tour is called the Mutiny for the Masses Tour, and yeah, it’s a big one.
The run kicks off in Austin, Texas this September and wraps up on Halloween night in Lexington, Kentucky. One thing worth noting — there are no opening acts. Just Johnny Blue Skies, his band “the Dark Clouds”, and the crowd. That’s it.
His record Mutiny After Midnight is straight-up doing numbers right now. It’s sitting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 — and get this, purely off physical sales. Doing that purely off physical sales? In today’s streaming world, that’s honestly kind of wild.”
On April 18, Johnny Blue Skies & the Dark Clouds are dropping two covers on 7″ vinyl for Record Store Day. We’re talking Procol Harum’s “A Whiter Shade of Pale” and William Bell’s “You Don’t Miss Your Water”. Vinyl fans are going to lose it.
On top of all this, Sturgill is also stepping into Hollywood. He’s got a role in Boy Harsher’s upcoming film The Lonely Woman, which is still in post-production. FKA twigs and Bonnie “Prince” Billy are also in it — so yeah, the cast alone makes this one to watch.
