Rei Ami reacts to ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ record-breaking success, saying she’s “waiting for the call” from Netflix about a possible sequel.

“KPop Demon Hunters” continues its meteoric rise as one of Netflix’s biggest cultural moments of the year, and now fans are eager to know whether a sequel is on the way.
According to singer and star Rei Ami, she’s just as curious as everyone else. Speaking to E! News on Friday at Heidi Klum’s 24th Annual Halloween Party, Ami revealed that despite the film’s massive success, she hasn’t yet heard any official word from Netflix about a follow-up. “I’m waiting for the call, just like you,” she said. “You’re gonna find out when I do, so we’ll chat then.”
Ami attended Klum’s star-studded Halloween bash dressed as Zoey, the character she portrays in the hit film. She wore the same patchwork parachute pants seen in the movie’s opening scene — an outfit that has quickly become one of this year’s most popular Halloween looks.
The singer admitted she’s been stunned by how many fans have recreated costumes from the movie. “Oh my god, it’s everywhere, I can’t get a break from it,” she joked. “And I’m not complaining, please! I want to see more.”
The runaway popularity of “KPop Demon Hunters” comes after earlier conversations from the creative team and cast hinted at the film’s deep musical inspirations.
During past press appearances, the vocalists — including Ami, EJAE and Audrey Nuna — spoke about how the project blended K-pop sensibilities with American hip-hop influences.
They cited artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Missy Elliott as key inspirations for the film’s dynamic sound, noting that Lamar’s storytelling and flow helped shape the emotional tone of several tracks on the soundtrack.
Even the filmmakers acknowledged in earlier interviews that the story world was ripe for expansion.
Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans previously suggested that many character backstories and unexplored “pockets” of the universe were intentionally left open, allowing space for potential sequels or spin-offs.
Those comments have resurfaced as fans push harder for Netflix to greenlight a follow-up.
“KPop Demon Hunters,” which follows a powerhouse K-pop girl group who double as mystical monster hunters, has now become the most-streamed movie in Netflix history, racking up 236 million views. Its soundtrack — performed by the fictional group Huntr/x — has also surged across global music charts.
Despite the worldwide impact, Ami said the magnitude of the film’s success still feels surreal. Calling the project a true “cultural phenomenon,” she reflected on how the movie has brought “hope and light into such a dim, grim world.”
With fan enthusiasm at an all-time high, hopes for a sequel continue to grow — and Ami seems as ready as anyone for that call from Netflix.
