The pop star publicly expressed support for demonstrators after a man was killed during an ICE enforcement operation in Minneapolis, drawing attention to the incident and the broader debate around immigration enforcement in the U.S.
The singer shared several Instagram Stories condemning the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, calling the agency’s behavior “unconscionable.” She also urged fans to stay politically active by contacting their senators and pushing back against further funding for ICE. In one of her posts, Rodrigo made her stance clear, writing, “I stand with Minnesota.”

Her comments came after a January 24 incident reported by NBC News, in which federal agents shot and killed 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti during an enforcement operation. Pretti’s family identified him as an intensive care nurse.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, officers involved said they were confronted by an armed individual who resisted efforts to disarm him, which led to the shooting.
However, local officials have urged caution as investigations continue. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara stated that authorities believe Pretti was a lawful gun owner with a valid permit to carry. He emphasized that many details surrounding the encounter are still unclear, and multiple reviews are underway to determine exactly what happened.
The shooting sparked immediate protests across Minneapolis, with demonstrators demanding accountability, transparency, and changes to federal immigration enforcement practices.
